Gasoline Shortage

So, due to some weird conjunction of planets or maybe vampiric activity, we have a gasoline shortage here on the Emerald Coast. Most of our gas is delivered via barge since we are not on a major highway. Well, barge traffic was messed up by Hurricane Dennis, as was refinery deliveries. The result is that there was only one gas station open in Niceville and traffic was backed up 20 or 30 car lengths in either direction trying to get to the pumps. The other gas stations were already out. Even the military bases are struggling to find gasoline for their stations where those of us with military IDs can fill up.

Word was that a barge is due in tonight, but then they said that yesterday.

Needless to say, everyone is talking about raising the prices even more since they are having to use tankers too to truck gasoline in and so they are adding on extra transport fees.

So, hurricanes alone aren't enough, we now have to deal with this, two weeks after the bloody storm is gone. Sigh.

I know, I know, bitch, bitch, bitch.

At least I drive a little car and can go another week probably on my half tank of gas.

I think Jeb Bush has the right idea. Get the damned oil companies to explain exactly WHY they cut shipments in half five days before a huge honking hurricane made millions of us take to the highways as refugees. Something stinks here, and it's not the fish or the swamp.
"They" did the same stuff to us last year during Hurricane Charley. Most of us spent time comparing notes as to what gas station was open, which ones that were open still had gas (most times it was premium only).

As a former, still and forevermore X-Files fan ... I am thinking there is probably a HUGE conspiracy out there.

I do not think I am that far off ... sad, innit?
